topshop

i recently won the Topshop Tumblr "You Wear it Well" Contest, and now I have won a free trip to NYC and a shopping spree. But it got me looking at (well, stalking) the Topshop website to see what goodies i could find. Here are some of my favorites... just in time for new years (okay so i'm a little early, but give me a break... i'm excited).

We start out with a slim, simple black bodycon dress- let's add a fun gold and black belt to spice it up... next, layer on this wonderful fur gillet, and throw on these insane accessories- a spikey collar and a ton of gold bangles. on bottom, reach for the black tights and velvet heels, but add some interest with some cozy socks to bunch around your ankles. Finish it off with a smokey eye and some cat eye liner, and you're ready to ring in the new year !

teen vogue fashion university

this weekend i made the long trek up to new york city for Teen Vogue Fashion University 2011. I arrived thursday night and spent the night with a friend, and travelled into the city on friday afternoon. I stayed at the W hotel in Times Square, and it was so amazing.

Friday Night: friday evening was the H&M event, and it was so much fun. the Viva Brothers played a small set, and we all received a 25% discount. There were also miniature foods (think cheesburgers, the size of dollar coins. gasp*) and delicious drinks. It was a bit hectic, but i found some great pieces. (i'll do a haul later)

Saturday: woke up early, got dressed and walked through times square to the hudson theater, where the lobby was packed with my fellow fashionistas. i got my name tag and a fabulous Le Sport Sac swag bag with lots of goodies. I met up with my friend Natalie, and we got our seats in the theater. Michael Kors gave the opening speech, and it was humorous and entertaining. He's an amazing man.

My first 'class' was with several fashion bloggers: Emily Weiss from Into the Gloss, Erin and Stephanie from The Coveteur, and Arabelle from Fashion Pirate. It was really informative, and fun. Emily was probably my favorite- she is so sweet and knowledgeable- i'm definitely inspired to blog more frequently.

My next session was with the one and only Proenza Schouler duo- Jack and Lazaro! I was so pumped for this q&a, and it did not disappoint. These boys are so down to earth (not to mention adorable!) and i loved hearing their story. It's really great to put a face (or two) to a global company that I have loved for a long time.

I then went out to lunch in times square, and when i returned, it was time to meet with Lauren Bergen, the Intern Queen!! She was beyond personable, and honestly, i'm a little bit obsessed with her now. I learned so much during her session- she gave such practical and helpful tips and tricks. I am so glad i chose to attend this one. I am so motivated to apply for internships now!!

After Lauren's session, it was finally time to tour the teen vogue editorial offices. it was amazing, to say the least. i can't even really put it into words!! I loved being in the offices of such creative and revolutionary editors.

However, my favorite two things were definitely the q&a with the editors, and the TOPSHOP Shopping Soirée.
The topshop party was so much fun, and my friend Natalie and I explored the racks of Topshop for a good 2 hours, and finally went to see the special party room reserved for us. There was a candy bar à la Willy Wonka, hand-dipped caramel apples, and mocktails. It was so much fun. :) I was also chosen as one of 8 girls featured on the Topshop Tumblr. If you have a tumblr, PLEASE reblog- the most reblogs by october 31 gets a grand prize!! Check it out here.

a life so strong, so vivid
yet it fades, with time
it does not always have ability
to transcend the heartache
the sorrow
and the busy days
they tax, and they weaken
the promise that was given at birth
a promise of magic
old man remembers his old joy
his eyes have lost their sparkle
the wrinkles evicted his smile
we grow and grow and grow
and forget and forget and forget
as we live,
our lives teach us how to forget living

fall fashion

Photobucket

these are just a few pieces that inspire me when i'm dressing myself for fall/winter. my favorite runway shows for this season are Dior, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Céline, among others. Rich colors and textures are important, and I'll be pairing them with basic leather and wool pieces this fall. I am in the market for some great beige and black heels for this fall- as well as some FUR! (faux or vintage for me, a vegetarian). last but not least, leather will of course be a staple this winter. enjoy!

new york fashion week highlights

Photobucket
i loved the slick look of alexander wang's collection. the leather headscarves and rich textures were to die for.
Photobucket
tibi was definitely my favorite. the clean lines and great tailoring really caught my eye. the pops of color, however, definitely stole the show- i am obsessed with the canary yellow and peach!
Photobucket
proenza schouler, of course. my boys. jack and lazaro definitely stayed true to their style- bold prints, silohuettes, and rich colors were abundant as the models marched down the shag carpet runway.

NYFW fall '11.... i'll be there in person next time, you can count on it. :)

clothing haul

these are just a few of the things i've bought lately. top photo: paperbag shorts, camel color, H&M- these shorts are so great. they are comfy (albeit a little hot) and look awesome paired with my new white button-down (not pictured). Next--paperbag shorts, beige, Urban outfitters (they look great, but they're already falling apart... don't buy them); black sheer button up, H&M.
got this great silk multi-colored dress from a vintage store, the brand is BB Dakota. the only thing i don't like is that the straps are adjustable by tying them... such a hassle... but other than that it's great. i also got this greaattt sheer chiffon button up from American Apparel in a navy color. it looks great long over a dress or tied up over some cute shorts with heels. last but not least, i bought this beautiful white chiffon (hmm... so much chiffon) maxi skirt from ASOS. it is beautiful and flowing and soo comfortable. It has a black elastic waistband which i like, and can be worn around the hips or up around the waist!

love my items... i think they'll help me make a good transition into fall. :)
have a good day lovelies.
